This aggressive approach backed by the presence of the Military and the Sierra Leone Police aimed at intensifying awareness raising and also appeal to those in the habit of harmful environmental practices to desist or face the full force of the law.
Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Tunis stressed the significance of the area, warning that if destroyed, all the investment and efforts over the years will go in vain. She appealed to stakeholders to maintain the commitment and focus in protecting the forest in order to prevent unwanted occurrence.
The exercise was also for the Ministry of Lands to demarcate the 6,000 acres of land handed-over to the Tourism Ministry in order to ascertain the boundary spot for proper protection.
This prime touristic spot host a World Bank funded facility, Tecuyama Dam and the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, hence it is of utmost importance to protect and safeguard it from unauthorized human activities.
