6th July, 2024

Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Visit Sierra Leone (VSL) Travels in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs July’s Environmental Awareness for Eco-tourism month in the Tourism for All Campaign organized a hiking excursion to the Tokuyama and Mambo Waterfalls respectively.

This initiative by Tacugama and VSL Travels complements the efforts of the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Tunis, and her vision for the “Tourism for All” campaign, aimed at bolstering eco-tourism in Sierra Leone. Bala Amarasekaran, founder of the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, emphasized that in addition to the hike to Tokuyama Waterfall, they have planned numerous activities aligned with July’s theme of “Environmental Awareness for Eco-tourism” in the Tourism for All campaign.
He mentioned that Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary is one of Sierra Leone’s most beautiful places, offering enriching experiences and knowledge about Sierra Leone’s national animal, the chimpanzee, as well as eco-tourism opportunities.

The hike to Mambo waterfall organized by VSL Travels marked the 20th anniversary of the Travel Agency. Participants were thrilled by the beauty of waterfall as they immerse themselves with stunning scenery and natural ambiance.

Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs continues its efforts to fostering partnerships with the private sector by demonstrating commitment to ensuring active ministry participation in major events organized by partners, underscoring dedication to engaging everyone in tourism activities.

Participants from the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, and those from Ghana, Nepal, the United States, and others, enjoyed visiting captivating eco-tourism spots including the Guma Dam, Tokuyama and Mambo Waterfalls, and other touristic sites within the sanctuary and the Waterfalls.
