1727:  The Futa Jallon jihad was launched under the cleric Ibrahim Musa against other non-believers.

 

1787: The “Province of Freedom” in Sierra Leone would offer a permanent home for impoverished blacks under the protection of the British crown and the Royal Navy.

 

1789: the Koya Temne on the Sierra Leone peninsula resisted attempts by British abolitionists to assume control over their land in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

 

1792: In 1792, 1,100 freed slaves landed on the Sierra Leone peninsula and founded Freetown. Freetown served as a destination for freed American slaves until about 1885.

 

1800: The Maroons of Sierra Leone were the second group of immigrants to Freetown, Sierra Leone. The Maroons were the same ethnic group as the Jamaican Maroons and they came from Trelawny Town, Jamaica.
