One Love Sierra Leone Foundation Unveils Refurbished Up-Gun & Kings Yard Gate Monument

One of the Partners for the Tourism for All Campaign, One Love Sierra Leone Foundation, together with West African Heritage in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs have unveiled the refurbished Up-Gun and Kings Yard Gate Monument in the Eastern part of Freetown. The event was attended by relevant stakeholders and pupils and students from different educational institutions.

The Monument at Up-Gun was one of three guns originally stationed at (Up-Gun, Jomo Kenyatta Road-Dwarzark Junction and Leicester Road) to demarcate Freetown from the Rural areas in the 1800s.

Administration Manager, Monument and Relics Commission, Ann-Marie Kamara on behalf of Minister Nabeela Farida Tunis thanked the Foundation for the laudable initiative in restoring the historical monument. She mentioned that the unveiling of the refurbished Up-Gun Turntable Monument resonates with June’s Monument and Relics theme of the Tourism for All Campaign, while also calling on other organizations to replicate same.

Representative from One Love Sierra Leone Foundation, Mohamed Kallon stated that the unveiling of the Monuments by the Foundation was a testament to their continued support to national development. He assured that they will continue to collaborate with the Ministry in promoting tourism and culture in Sierra Leone.
