Private Sector’s Crucial Role in Preserving Sierra Leone’s Tourism Assets: A Case Study of Gola Rainforest

A major factor for success in any tourism program is effective preservation of tourism assets, and the private sector plays a big role in this regard. Whether it is the preservation of beaches and islands, or wildlife and nature, private sector participation has been critical in building the knowledge base necessary to effectively conserve and perpetuate the usefulness assets.
A case in point is the research and monitoring of biodiversity in the Gola Rainforest. Through partnerships and guidance from local and international organizations, the research team has been able to develop considerable expertise in biodiversity assessments, carbon measurement and monitoring, and other metrics necessary for effective preservation of the reserve.
