The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Edward Kwame Yankson on behalf of the Minister, Nabeela Tunis commissioned the installation of 110 solar lights along Lumley Beach front. The project which was supported by Leone Rock Metal Group was part of the Ministry’s broader objective to transform coastal areas and prime touristic sites of outstanding natural beauty into attractive eco-friendly tourist destination.
The launch of the beautification of Lumley beach resonates with the March’s Create and Innovate theme of the Tourism for All Campaign. The solar lights installation project will add value to the beach as well as address security concerns along the beach fronts. The event was held at Gigibonta Car Park, Lumley Beach.

The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Tunis and team, including the Permanent Secretary, Edward Kwame Yankson, the Director of Culture, Foday Jalloh, Director of Tourism, Mohamed Jalloh, General Manager, NTB, Fatmata Hamid Carew and representative from the private sector embarked on an on the spot visit to Lumley Beach. The visit was part of the Ministry’s engagement with beach bar owners regarding the demolition and general compliance of the guidelines and other related issues pertaining to the sustainable use of the beach front.
Owners of remaining beach bars and similar structures were advised to comply with the directive of NTB to reconstruct before the deadline of April 30th, 2024 or face demolition.
