Farmers in Sierra Leone are bigger partners with the government on tourism development that the farmers themselves probably realize. Yes, the importance of food security in the larger economy is recognized, but have we really given thought to the role food plays in Sierra Leone’s tourism drive?
We boast about our unique cuisine to the world, but we don’t wax as lyrical about the not-so-glamorous people doing the grunt work to make the raw materials available for masterpieces in gastronomy to be created.
It is about time farmers get the accolades they deserve as indispensable catalysts for tourism growth in Sierra Leone.
