In their relentless drive to keep the beaches clean and maintaining a serene hygienic environment, staff of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, the National Tourist Board and the Monument and Relics Commission have embarked on yet another robust cleaning and clearing of debris on Lumley-Aberdeen beach in Freetown.
The cleaning exercise marked the beginning of the creative and innovative month of March in the Tourism for All campaign and resonated with the idea of creating alternative solutions to recycle waste. According to the Managing Director of Premier Environ Solutions, Walid Bahsoon, plastic is not a burden but a resource that they are prepared to buy through AfriMoney and process to make blocks. In her remarks, Minister Tunis said that the two-day exercise aimed at getting waste, especially plastics off the surface of the beach and also inculcate the habit of dumping waste into the bins along the beach road.
Sector stakeholders including the Permanent Secretary, Edward Kwame Yankson, the General Manager, Fatmata Hamid Carew and the Administrative Manager of MRC, Ann-Marie Kamara were all part of the cleaning exercise.
